The bets

Twenty years of small to mid-sized bets. Most miss quietly; a few change everything. Here’s all of it — the ones in flight and the ones already in the books.

In flight

Local AI

Ongoing

Our own rack of Mac Studios, running models at full blast.

We run six Mac Studios — 2× 512GB M3 Ultras and 4× 128GB M4 Max — driving local AI models 24/7. We love local AI: own the compute, keep the data, ship tools that don't depend on someone else's API or quota.

Broadband successor

In progress

The spiritual successor to BroadbandNow.

After crunching billions of rows to map every ISP in the country, we learned a lot about where internet data is broken. The next chapter applies those lessons to a sharper, modern take on the problem.

USA Arms

2026–Present

A community directory for the firearms world.

Finding local ranges, instructors, FFLs, clubs, and resources was harder than it should have been — so we started building one. The goal: make the firearms community easier to navigate, one useful listing at a time.

On the books

GoAndorra

2023–2024

Street View for an entire country, built from scratch.

The one that got away. We scanned all of Andorra with a 360° camera — 260,000 high-res panoramas — and built a search engine on top. Great project; didn’t fit the life we were building.

Find Energy 2021–2023

Transparency for the energy industry.

Look up emissions, production, and sales data for every electric company in the US — plus availability, average bills, and more. Another billion-scale data directory.

2B rows of senior-care data + the SSG that rendered it.

Elder Guide crunched 2+ billion rows of government data to help families make senior-care decisions. To build it fast we open-sourced Elder.js, the static site generator behind it. Its successor — Boom — now powers this site.

Business Internet 2017–2018

Business internet, demystified.

Businesses shopping for internet have a unique set of problems. A focused tool to streamline the search.

BroadbandNow 2014–2018

Research, compare, and shop internet in your neighborhood.

Easily the biggest home run. We crunched over a billion rows of data to make every ISP in the country searchable and comparable. A category-defining directory play.

PhotoDropper

2012–2017

A WordPress plugin on 130,000+ sites.

Find Creative Commons or stock photos for your site, right from the editor. Ran on over 130,000 WordPress sites at its peak.

TaxReceipts

2011–2012

Bookkeeping, simplified for tax season.

A tool to help small businesses and freelancers simplify their bookkeeping come tax season.

Microbrand Media

2009–2019

14 web assets, built with a great partner.

A decade-long partnership with Duane Anderson. Between 2009 and 2019 we built 14 web assets, from tiny affiliate plays to major startups.

Auto Loan Business

2007–2014

150k people with bad credit, matched fairly.

Started with my Dad while I was in college. Helped over 150,000 people with bad credit get auto loans while cutting out the loan sharks.

Gwun (the original)

2006–2010

Email marketing for real estate — the one that started it all.

The freelancing business started under a bunk bed in a fraternity house. Scaled to $100k/year, served 400+ realtors, and marketed thousands of luxury properties. The namesake of the company.
